Application Deadlines for Fall 2017:

December 15, 2016: priority for financial support consideration
January 5, 2017: Application deadline with financial support consideration

Applications received after January 5th may still be considered depending on the availability of the remaining resources. For Fall Quarter (beginning in September), the deadline of Admission and Fellowship consideration for both Domestic (U.S. Citizens and U.S. Permanent Residents) and Foreign (International) applicants is January 5th. The Admissions Committee will only review an application once the application has been officially submitted and for international students the application fee has been paid.

Application Process

Applicants to the graduate program should hold a degree in Chemical/Environmental Engineering or a related field.  A master's degree in NOT a prerequisite for the Ph.D. program.  Additional requirements are: A minimum 3.0 GPA from undergraduate studies, three strong letters of recommendation, and a minimum of a 300 on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).

All students admitted are expected to satisfy the prerequisites for graduate courses (check here for details). Under special circumstances, students who have not completed the undergraduate requirements may be conditionally admitted with the promise that deficiencies are corrected within the first year of graduate study. However, courses taken for this purpose do not count towards an advanced degree.

International students, permanent residents, and even U.S. citizens whose native language is not English and who do not have a bachelor's or postgraduate degree from an institution where English is the exclusive language of instruction are required to complete the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 550 for the paper-based test, 213 for the computer-based test and 80 for the internet based test (iBT).  International students can also take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).  An overall score of 7, with no individual section score less than 6 is required.

In general, financial support will not be provided for international students whose primary goal is for a Masters degree. International applicants who wish to be considered for financial aid must apply to the Ph.D. program.
